A fun idea for the tooth fairy: a felt pillow in the shape of a tooth

Nothing can make a child feel like a “big kid” more than losing their teeth. But the most exciting part for many kids is being visited by the tooth fairy, so if you’ve been wondering what can you do as a parent to make it more creative, you’ve come to the right place. Keep reading below for 3 fun ideas for the tooth fairy that will bring a smile to your child’s face every time they lose a tooth.

1. Include a Letter Addressed To Your Child From the Tooth Fairy

Writing a short letter “from the tooth fairy” is a great way to make kids feel special. You can even include that the tooth fairy really appreciates clean teeth and to keep up the good work with brushing and flossing and visits to the dentist.

Another fun idea is adding a receipt that includes the number and quality of the teeth (fair, good or excellent), the date of collection, the amount of money paid, and your child’s name and age. There are also many options for tooth fairy receipts online that can be a great resource.

And if you want to make it seem like the tooth fairy was really there, you can even use a doll to leave a few footprints behind in glitter or baby powder.

2. Make It An Adventure

Instead of giving your child money from the tooth fairy (or in addition to), you could always let them choose a fun activity after losing each tooth. To keep it within reason, you could write them a note with three options they love like a scavenger hunt, one-on-one walk outside, or a bike ride.

3. Use Tooth Fairy “Accessories”

A quick online search is a great way to see how many tooth fairy accessories are available that can be either be made or inexpensively bought. Some options are ideal for light sleepers such as pillows you can hang outside the door with a pocket for money or small boxes to put beside the bed. Other children would love to have a small tooth fairy door on their nightstand or receive special stamped coins.

You can also check out local Hinsdale mom, Mistie Lucht’s, new business @wiggle.tooth.fairy on Instagram. Just be sure your little one isn’t peeking over your shoulder.

Kids soon outgrow the stage of believing in the tooth fairy. But the fun memories of each visit after losing a tooth will stay with them for a lifetime. Our best piece of advice? Soak these days up, even if it means you have to get out of bed to complete your duties because it slipped your mind.

We get it; the days are long but the years are short—there is nothing quite as simple and sweet as the innocent excitement of a child on the morning the tooth fairy has visited!
