Pediatric Sedation Dentistry Hinsdale and Downers Grove

Next Level Comfort for Positive Dental Experiences

It is not uncommon for a child to be afraid of visiting the dentist. Let’s face it, many grown-ups are scared of the dentist as well! While we do our best to calm your little one’s nerves and make them comfortable, sometimes we are unable to complete certain treatments due to a child's overwhelming fear or anxiety. When this happens, one of our pediatric dentists might suggest nitrous oxide or general anesthesia, depending on the level of your child's apprehension.

Nitrous Oxide

Commonly known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is one of the gentlest, safest and most effective sedation techniques available today. It’s ideal for children who are just a little bit anxious about coming to see us. They’ll simply inhale the colorless, odorless gas through a small mask on their nose, and within a minute, they’ll feel a warm, comforting sensation throughout their entire body. Many feel like they’re floating! After we’re done with their treatment, we’ll remove the mask, and your child will feel completely normal in less than a minute. They’ll be able to go on about their day without any lasting drowsiness.

General Anesthesia

This approach puts your child into a state of controlled unconsciousness. They will be completely unaware of their treatment and have no memory of it afterward. It will be administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist, and it can be carried out both in the comfort of our office and at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital (where our pediatric dentists are on staff).

This method is ideal for children with extreme dental fear, special needs, and uncooperative tendencies. It enables our team to take care of our most sensitive patients with relative ease. Our team has been using this approach for many years, and we are proud to work with the best in the field of anesthesia to safely provide care for our patients.
